Backward Poker: A Way to Failure
Consider this: Mike needed money for the carnival that’s just round the corner. He opts for “one-table satellite tourney” to achieve his dreams. His logic was that online casinos are lucrative. As an efficient poker master, he would rake money within half-an-hour and get the job done. However, within 45 minutes, he was in total penury. The plan had been disastrous.
Like Mike, many inexperienced poker players approach the poker game backwards, taking bad decisions all the while. What Mike could have done was to play aggressively for sometime more rather than staying for a short time. Staying till the end is what any professional player would opt for in such a situation.
Some other players are obsessed with the percentage of flops and demand a lot of starting hand requirements. The number of flops does not matter and if you are too much into the percentage of the flops, you are playing a backward game – concentrating on area which does not require so much of effort.
What you need to do is think is about the tactics to put the game in your favour post flop. Moreover, how you play the existing hand is what matters most rather than the starting hand.
Often, players are dressed up with hats and goggles, so that they do not give away poker tells. They want to concentrate on the game nevertheless and play well. But, don’t you think that such dress-up can cause more gossips and giggles from neighbours? How would you concentrate on the game then? Poker tells can be given out even by the way you walk, sit, or talk. As you cannot remain isolated in a live game, it is sensible to remain composed more than putting on a make-up.
Analyse when to slow-play and when to play aggressively during a game. Analysis, practice, notes, etc are better approach to poker rather than doing insignificant activities or playing backward poker.
